Lessons:   Knowledge of Artistic Styles Through Art History (taught in both Spanish and English)

Description: A group of eight lessons that will start with an understanding of the human desire to create art. Beginning with the imagery of Pre-Historic drawings on cave walls, we will move through Modern times. Lessons will be in both Spanish and English so that kids will understand the vocabulary of art in both languages. We will touch on Surrealism, Abstract Expressionism, Impressionism, Cubism, Realism, etc..

As we study the various artists, kids will begin to develop their own preference for mediums and personal style.

Supply List and Materials needed: 
  • Sketch pad for acrylic paints: 9" x 12"
  • Pencils for sketching 
  • Acrylic paints: 10 assorted small tubes purchased as a set (recommended brand: BASICS)
  • Small  box of pastels
  • 10 Canvases: 12" x 12" to start with (as classes progress students can purchase larger canvases if they choose)
  • Set of brushes for acrylic paints (Artist's Loft Necessities Natural Hair Brushes - set of 10, available at Michael's)
  • Plastic cups or glass jars for water
  • Cut-up t-shirts for rags
  • A table easel is optional but recommended (prices vary and several options are available at Michael's)
  • We recommend wearing old clothes that you don't mind getting paint on; paints are permanent on clothing!
  • Plastic table cloth to protect work area

  • Use of the various mediums:
       -  Collage
       -  Acrylic paints
       -  Pastels

Lessons:  The Power of Self-Expression; Finding your own Artistic Voice (in Spanish and English)

Through the exploration of different materials, colors and the study of various textures and styles, a student will develop their own sense of expression and artistic sensibility. They will find a palette of colors that suits their personality while creating a series of pieces focused on their personal style.
