Artist: Sarah R.

Project: Beginner Hand Embroidery Sampler

Picture
Description: Sarah begins each class talking about transfer methods (how to get patterns and your own illustrations on to fabric), and giving book and web resources for this information, so you can do further looking and exploring on your own.

She teaches six basic stitches with explicit instruction. While the class is practicing each stitch she talks about the best uses for that stitch, (text, outline, can be used as a fill stitch, etc.), and encourages people to take notes and write down the info that would be most useful for them to have. She brings examples of her work so you can see how she's applied the stitches.

The sampler is not finished in class. This is on purpose so you can go home to practice on your own.

Project: Intermediate Hand Embroidery Sampler

Picture
Description: In this class we will get a bit deeper into the expansive world of embroidery. We will spend time talking about different types of thread and the best ways to store and care for thread. We will also talk a little more in depth about needles and choosing the best needle for your embroidery projects. This sampler builds on basic hand embroidery stitches (such as the back & chain stitches). I will teach 7 new stitches including:
  • Blanket stitch
  • Woven back stitch
  • Wagon wheel
  • Fly
  • Seed stitch
  • Heavy chain stitch
  • Fishbone!
This class is packed with new embroidery knowledge and plenty of great stitching practice! If you feel like you've been stuck doing three basic stitches for years, this is the class for you!
