Emily C. is a calligrapher who has always loved making letters, for her it’s the form that is even more important than the content. In fact the word “Calligraphy” comes from the Greek words for beautiful letters. This love of embellished written words started when she saw the “Book of Kells”, an intricately written manuscript with stylistic lettering that dates back to about 800 A.D., as a child on a family vacation to Ireland. She was absolutely enrapt!
“There is nothing like a quill on parchment for me…the sound is so nice”, and it’s a sound that has been heard for thousands of years. She enjoys imparting her love of the written form with all of its flourishes to her students.
