Emily A. radiates creativity. Sit down with her and she comfortably describes how to bind books in a variety of leather or collage covers, explains how to felt, make stained glass or glass ornaments and pendants, batik, make and work with henna dye, do Japanese weaving, fabricate Ukranian Easter eggs, and the list just goes on.
She learned how to batik at summer camp when she was 12 and considers herself a serial hobbyist with a strong affinity for textile work, including batik, weaving, dye-work and felting. Her formal education includes a Master's in Architecture from The Georgia Institute of Technology. She began exhibiting 15 years ago on the festival circuit. She has taught at Callanwolde and at the John C. Campbell Folk School in North Carolina.
Emily "believes that anyone can be an artist, even if they can't draw a straight line. Art is all around us, in everything we see and do. I love helping others realize that they can make beautiful things that enrich their lives and make them smile."

Robin B. has always been interested in the arts, and has always loved plants. She grew up influenced by a mother with a green thumb. She particularly enjoys working with dried flowers because they last, and the textures and never ending variety intrigue her. A multi-color or monochrome planter may feature a range of different flowers, fruits, pods, berries, and seeds. She has a wonderful esthetic that comes through in her lovely flower arrangements.
She has experience working with galleries and has represented several fine arts artists who worked in different mediums, painting, sculpting, watercolor, and paper collages. She has assisted students in the classroom doing school art projects and parents working on projects for school fundraisers.

Mary B. comes from a family of craftsmen and has worked with wood throughout her life. But, from the moment she stepped into the metalsmithing studio at Callanwolde Fine Arts Center, the door was opened to a new love. She has trained with skilled jewelers in studio, online, and with countless hours of experimenting.
Mary is most intrigued by visual and tactile contrasts. This leads her to mix metal types, develop layers of texture, and create unexpected combinations with wood, gemstones, pearls and glass. She is attentive to using semi-precious gemstones sparingly so that they are featured rather than filler. Because Mary is deeply interested in protecting the environment, she makes nature inspired pendants and shapes using recovered wood which is hand sanded and finished simply. Her metal finishing is mostly done by hand and she repurposes materials to create in a mindful way. Her goal is to create jewelry that is comfortably wearable but also encourages people to stop for a second look.
From her years as a systems analyst, Mary brings attention to detail and a curiosity to test and combine techniques. Her instruction focuses on underlying skills so that a student may apply these building blocks to other projects. She loves the moment when a student grasps a concept or a technique “clicks.”

Emily C., a calligrapher, has always loved making letters; for her it’s the form that is even more important than the content. In fact the word “Calligraphy” comes from the Greek words for beautiful letters. This love of embellished written words started when she saw the “Book of Kells”, an intricately written manuscript with stylistic lettering that dates back to about 800 A.D., as a child on a family vacation to Ireland. She was absolutely enrapt!
“There is nothing like a quill on parchment for me…the sound is so nice”, and it’s a sound that has been heard for thousands of years. She enjoys imparting her love of the written form with all of its flourishes to her students.

Fran C. has been creating Flower Shop quality arrangements using grocery store flowers for more than 20 years. How many of us have received a bouquet of flowers and put them in a vase only to find they simply fall to one side! What should be a beautiful focal point turns out to be a droopy mess. Using techniques she learned while working in a local Atlanta floral shop, Fran can teach you to create dinner party centerpieces, baby shower arrangements, Valentine’s Day quality roses and much more.
Fran received her BA in Business from the University of Georgia, has worked in the consulting/healthcare industries as well as owned and operated her own gift basket business. She is currently a stay at home mom for three teenage daughters and is excited to reestablish her creative entrepreneurial side with Art At Home.
Why does she enjoy sharing art with others? "My favorite part of creating flower arrangements is being able to give them to others to enjoy. Everyone loves getting flowers. It is my way to show the people around me that I love and appreciate them. Being able to do this using grocery store flowers makes it an economical way to spread joy".

Gwen C., the 5th of 6 daughters, was the one who always wanted to do something different. As a sixth grader she came running home from school to help her grandpa remodel their kitchen. In High School she took wood shop, and loved it. Her teacher asked her what she was going to do for a profession and he suggested that she teach woodworking.
Gwen started her career by teaching woodworking and metal shop. Over time, High School programs evolved to woodworking, drafting, and engineering. Locally she has taught for years in the DeKalb county schools teaching Technology and Engineering. She likes seeing the look on a student’s face when they really understand how a project is supposed to work.
In her spare time she likes making anything out of wood, especially furniture. There is something about the feel of the wood that has always intrigued her, and knowing that it is something that she has made with her own hands.

Anne R. is a native Atlantan, having grown up in the Druid Hills area. She now lives in rural Rockdale County with her husband, and a menagerie of pets and farm animals. Her love of animals and nature is reflected in much of her work. In fact, she became interested in soap making while trying to find a solution for what to do with her goats' milk! That hobby evolved into learning how to make other toiletries as well. Her passionate appreciation for glass art began when she took a class with the idea of creating several pieces for her home. That first class extended to many more, plus workshops and apprenticeships.
Calling herself a reformed accountant, Anne feels she has found "heaven on earth" changing careers. Anne is now a full time artist and teacher.

Amelia R. grew up surrounded by art as her grandmother is a professional sculptor and painter, and was a model for her. Her favorite artists are Monet, Seurat, Kandinsky, and Jackson Pollack because of their use of color. As a 10 year old she started doing counted cross-stitch, loving creative projects (with instructions). Amelia is very much a “color person”; the use of color intrigues her. A few years later she started crocheting. Initially she made baby blankets for several years until a friend told her she needed to learn to knit. In 2011 she was given 15 hours of knitting lessons as a gift. She learned Continental knitting (vs English).
What draws her to knitting is picking out the yarn, she loves the fiber, texture and color, and likes making for gifts for friends and family, particularly giving hand-made presents for the holidays. In addition, she makes beautiful cards, gift tags, and stationary to accompany them. Recently she’s expanded upon her knitting skills doing lace knitting, manipulating the color and empty spaces, and constructing garments to be custom fit rather than a generic s/m/l.
Amelia is an active hobbyist knitting and doing paper construction projects in her spare time. She is an active member of a local knitting board and many of her projects can be seen on Ravelry.

Sarah R. is a self taught surface embroidery artist. Stitching since childhood, she has countless hours of embroidery under her needles. As a former elementary school teacher, teaching embroidery seemed a natural progression for her embroidery career. She hopes for her classes to have a relaxed, creative and playful nature. Her work is most often inspired by vintage color pallets, fabrics and the colorful beauty found in nature.
Sarah enjoys "sharing the handcraft I love with others because embroidery brings me such peace and sense of accomplishment; I love when I see these feelings in those that enjoy my work and those that I teach." Her students leave her workshops and events feeling relaxed and yet so excited for the new skill they have just learned or practiced.

Kelly S. is originally from Virginia, just outside of Washington. D.C. where at her home art and creativity were strongly encouraged. Her love of collage and "bringing the pieces together" began at an early age with quilting and sewing with her mother and grandmother. She's spent over twenty years working as a graphic designer and an interactive media designer while continuing to pursue her love of fine art in painting and collage. Five years ago, She decided to pursue fine art full time. She works from her home studio and has been an exhibitor selling her art in shows close to home as well as in shows like the New York Art Expo.
She draws inspiration from traveling with her family and friends, as well as from music and festive gatherings. She currently lives in Decatur, Georgia with her husband and four children. She attended Savannah College of Art and Design, in Savannah, Georgia; George Mason University, in Fairfax, Virginia (B.A.) and Georgia Institute of Technology, in Atlanta, Georgia (M.S.).
"When I decided to pursue my passion for the fine arts, there was a natural transition from graphic design to collage. As a graphic designer, just like quilting, I used various design elements (in this case text and images) and moved them around within design software before creating a finished piece. Now I take physical pieces of painted, cut paper, fabric, etc. and move them around on a physical canvas, experimenting with how it looks until finally adhering the pieces to the canvas. I love the element of surprise; how things come alive on the canvas when you least expect it."
