Calligraphy - Series of 6 Lessons
In this class students will discover foundational aspects of the Italic hand, while learning some of the history of written language and it's importance to human life. Students will first refresh and strengthen their current handwriting skills with a look at how the Roman alphabet developed from early pictographs to the symbols we have today. They'll see how various writing tools shaped the letter forms, and they'll learn how to use the chisel-pointed pens that are used in Italic.
We'll look at the emergence of lettering as an art form by studying manuscripts from Western as well as Eastern traditions and discuss how different cultures developed different methods of written communication. By the conclusion of the course, each student will have learned upper and lower case Italic alphabets, and should have a completed calligraphic art piece as an example of their achievement.
It's a fun yet informative study of how writing is so much more than words.
